hi folks, im lookin for some help with electrics for my romahome. at the moment ive got a 240v socket in the back which is connected directly to the 240v hook up outside. there is a leisure battery which powers 3 lights, the water pump and the fridge.

i would like to put in a couple of 12v sockets in the back but i would ideally like everything to be 12v (apart from the 240v socket) and when plugged into the mains, i would like the mains to power all the 12v stuff and charge the battery. does anyone know if this is possible? could i just fit a battery charger to the battery permantly so that when ever i plugged into the mains it would start charging and power the other stuff?

any help is gratefully appreciated,

thanx, Dunk.

hello dunk what do you intend to run off the 12v ? i`m running my caravan off a bat charger + leisure batt at the moment. seems to cope ok but is only a temp measure till i can get back to our yard and nick a proper caravan charger out of one of the scrap vans weve got . i`ll see if i can get 2 of em where are you based? i know theyre not cheap but if you wait for a bit i`ll get you one for nowt

I reckon you want something like one of these. There are other options, and models. You get the best of both 12v and 240v, but may need a second battery, 'lest the battery on the van gets too discharged. The units also charge the battery up when connected to 240v, if so wired.  Mostly used in caravans and small boats.
