it seems to me as if its been running ok, but this is the first rascal i have ever driven
previous owner was a friend, owner before him was a mechanic, so if he has changed the belt, he should have done it properly?Huh
if it has been a few teeth out, i would exect it to run like a bag of poo

anyway, i'l set it how it should be set, and see how it goes
do you have a spare rad chop?
i quite fancy getting it all done in 1 go if i am going to do it at all
my van has a tendancy to get a little warm, but maybe that has ben down to the water pump leak

i've been on ebay, and there is nothing on there for a rascal
do you know of any cars/vans the rascal shares its radiator with?

I have radiators but I am loathe to supply them by post in case they are not satisfactory. I bought one of ebay once that was listed as new. When I eventually came to unpack it to use it & looked at it closely I found the vendor had unpacked his new rad sprayed up his old one with shiny black paint & packed it up to look like new in the new packaging. Internally the waterways were frost crushed. Matty C bought a secondhand one of ebay that was no good too. Buy new or be wary. Derek.

Derek is right, i made the mistake of buying a secondhand rad and although it look fine it was blocked somewhere and kept causing the van to overheat.  Definitely bite the bullet and buy a new one, one of the best things i have bought for my Rascal.

WOOHOO!!!!!!
It's all done!
I have now changed my first ever cam belt and water pump!
All done in 6 hours, which i think is quite good.
I can now get in my wee van, without having to put any water in!
I've got a 2.8 v6 a4 that needs a cam belt, but i'm still not sure if i am that adventurous yet? i may leave that to a garage

Anyway, thanks to everyone who guided my on this

the thermostat on the dash is behaving a lot better now to, but i am still on the look-out for a new radiator
