As my van is still leaking as much water as it is petrol, i need to source the leak!
derek has mentioned that it could be a seal in/by the water pump

I am guessing that if i replace this, i might as well change the cambelt at the same time?

i am thinking that i should change the water pump and cam belt

what else?

Thats all, but check the tensioner pulley bearing is in good order. If not, replace it. Oh & check the fan belt for wear. Derek. Is there water staining on the black timing cover?

Water pump should be around 40 to 50 pounds. I have used pulleys that are good. £10.00 including postage.  Have you had a good look for the leak. I think you should find the leak before you pull things apart or spend money. Derek.

if you cant see where water is comming from...then pump some air into system and listen for the hissing

i find it hard to understand that if your engine is leaking as bad as you say then it should be easy to find....if not then its got to be internal ...which would turn your oil into cream...or your exhaust would be steaming like a powerstation...

You could change the front crankshaft oil seal at the same time if it shows any sign of leaking. Derek.

i've had the van up on a ramp today, and i am fairly sure its leaking from the water pump
what do you think of this? £30 a bargain?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=330337018121

so how long should it take for me to change cam belt and water pump?

That`s a good price. No reason for the seal to have "dried" out. I think there made of neoprene. As to time, how long is a piece of string? I.E. every job runs differently. I know how long it takes us but we have done hundreds. Derek.

does £21.25 seem a bit expensive for a cambelt?

right then boys and girls....
i have finally started to do this!

today i removed my seats (makes things so much easier!) and centre console, and cross piece to get the radiator out

however i have a question

when i rotated the crank to its TDC mark on the casing, the TDC mark on the camshaft pulley looked about 2-3 teeth out!
as the crank turns twice for every rotation of the camshaft, i though i’d line the camshaft up and see what the difference was
when i aligned the camshaft to TDC, the crank was far too out, to be me not lining it up right

so the big question....
do i ignore what it has been on, and start from scratch by aligning everything properly, by putting a screwdriver into 1 of the pistons, and and manually getting it to TDC?

i have removed all pulleys now (i know how they came off) and replaced camshaft and crankshaft oil seals
i have also replaced the water pump which was in a bit of a mess!
there was no trace of an old seal at all! and the bearing was a bit shagged to say the least

on Monday, i will be putting the pulleys and tensioner back on with a new cam belt (although the old 1 looks fine!)

is there anything else i should be doing whilst its all off?

does anyone have a decent radiator for sale? ideally i could do with it by Monday, but Tuesday would be ok
a lot of the cooling fins on mine have perished, probably 10-15% of them are now missing!
I've been quoted £100 + vat from a local parts place, someone wanted £200 fo a rad!
i cant justify £115 at the min, as i am a very skint Cry

things not lining up ..would get me all excited...cos i would be thinking ...its not been running at its best .and what will it be like when it is..?..i would definatly put things as it should be ...follow the book by the letter..then you cant go wrong ..i cant think of anything else you can do in that state of re-build..if the radiator is not leaking then put it back on...its an easy job to do so take a little time to find a decent replacement...i think i may need another 5 speed gearbox as mine is getting awfully noisy...if you find one ill swap you for a radiator...
