Yoi JJ,
the bottom hose will be cooler ( if that's the word) than the top, because its the cooled air from the radiator going back into the engines water jacket?Huh
Or is it the other way round???

If you start the engine from cold, let it warm up while touching the top hose.at first it will be cold but as the engine warms up and if the thermostat is working correctly, the top hose will suddenly get warm then hot.keep an eye on the temp gauge and be carefull of the cooling fan with your hands or clothing.if any of these fail then i sugest to take out the thermostat and test in water while heating up on the stove, while doing this a full system including the heater could be flushed.the top radiator hose will get to hot too touch after the engine has been running at correct temp because the water runs from the bottom hose(cooler) then through the engine collecting the engine heat with it through the top hose down the cooling fins of the radiator and cooling the water before the cycle begins again...its a long story...ken
