Rascals do not need auxillary fans, just good & regular maintenance. Derek.

Disaster in South Wales!!

The side of the thermostat housing bolt thingy snapped off as Boboi fitted a new bolt in it last night. He is totally gutted and we are now 1 all on the rascie murdering front!!   Shocked

We have looked at it and the thermostat housing seems to be built into a big part of the engine and looks like a hideous job to get out and swap over. Luckily we have another engine from the original rascie and so are thinking that we are just going to get someone to swap the whole kit and caboodle. Would everyone agree that this is the best plan?

Poor old Boboi, he was trying so hard to get everything right and it's completely knocked his confidence for six  Sad Sad Sad

Cheers all

Em

yep, it's true... had to drill out the bolt in the end as the easyout wasn't working.
possibly damaged the bottom part of the housing when drilling but what is for sure is that the whole side of the housing came away when I was bolting it back on.

think i'll leave the engine change to the experts  Lips sealed

Bad news! If you take the inlet manifold of your spare engine it will give you an idea as to what is involved. Only fit your spare engine if you are absolutely certain it is a good one. Before fitting, heat up any service item bolts, get them out & grease them up whilst you have good access to the engine. Derek.

umph umph umph.....another one bites the dust....

Shit happens ....it must be easier to change the inlet manifold..(although i have never took one off while in vehicle) so cant really say...but even if you just lower engine down it will increase access...if you know that the current engine is good then i would stick with it...not the end of the world ...dont panic...its only nuts and bolts...

I hear what your saying, I can see the bits that need to be taken off but after the bolt shearing off and the total mess up I fear that it could get even worse.  I'm not to keen on dropping the engine out, as i've proved i'm not a good mechanic!

also the engine in the other van is better,so im told, perhaps it'll be better to put the other one in.

thanks for all your help and advice

It may be feasible to send it to me by a car transporter firm & I will sort it. It should not cost more than £150.00 I reckon. Send both vans maybe? I reckon I can sort it for about £150.00 & you can drive it home or have it transported back. Derek.

I tell you what Derek that is bloomin tempting! How much would you charge us to swap the roof and the back doors (needs wiring up as the white door has a heated screen) over as well whilst they were there if we got them both to you?

£600.00 to do everything apart from paint it & it will be back on the road. Derek.

Way Hey! I've sheared a thermostat housing bolt!  Cry

Thanks to great advice on here, yet again, to help facilitate getting me out of a pickle!  Although IF I had carried out ALL the advice like applying heat to the bolt, instead of being cocky and rushing to get it done,  I would not be merrily drilling this weekend!  Roll Eyes
