Im at a bit of a loss with this one at the mo! and it is getting worse. You could eat yr dinner out of the carb its that clean, and the ignition timing is strobed in and spot on. This is proving to be a bit of a bugger as the other half is having to use my van whilst im working on hers. I have found the only way to improve the spluttering on pull away is to yank the choke out then feather it back in as the speed increases! Its got to be a carb prob but its stumped me!

Have you checked the distributor?
Also condition of plugs?

A while back when I did some diy servicing on my own van I managed to put a bit of WD40 into the distributor cap whilst cleaning it...lead to some very funny running.

Have fitted a new dizzy cap and rotor arm, and have new plugs in with the gaps checked matey! Im sure its the carb or a gadget attached to it, because if I pull the choke out it helps drive through it! It kinda suggests a blocked idle jet, but Ive checked and its as clean as a whistle?

Have you also checked the condition and gap of your points? I regularly have to check mine otherwise I experience similiar problems. It is probably a good idea to also renew your condensor. Keep us posted

Ive just purchased the points and condenser for a tenner from my local autofactor  Smiley, However I was chatting to another fellow mechanic about it and he suggested the valve clearences may be too tight! Now I do have a tendancy to always set my clearances as close to the lower spec as possible which has made me think! When the engine warms up the gaps close and could possibly be being held open slightly Roll Eyes. So this weekend Im going to open the gaps up a little, if it cures it? Well that will teach me to be a bloody perfectionist lol

I am 99% sure the slow running jet is partially blocked, also the accelerator pump jets in the tube could be the same.

Cheers Derek  Smiley I will give the carb one more look over, although I did meticulously strip and clean it last time. I ran out of time this wkend so still have to adjust the valve clearances and fit the new points and condenser. Fingers crossed It will be cured  Smiley

I would also double check the gaskets between the carb, and inlet manifold. You may have a leak there, which closes when on the move.

Hi, Ive resealed the gaskets each time ive removed the carb for inspection and cleaning. Ive readjusted my valve clearances today and fitted new ignition points so will see how it goes now lol.
Cheers

Dont worry Andy ,

Ive had worse.....

Cam belt and water pump change went smoothly , everything sweet until I turned the key - Klunk it would'nt start!

Fearing the worst I stripped everything down again and refitted.....only realising after I had only left it in gear.
