Hi, has anyone else had large iron weights bolted to the floor under the spare wheel!? My other half noticed her van was sitting slightly lower on the back than mine. I took a look underneath and found some large metal weights bolted to the floor. Is this a modification by Vauxhall ? or someone elses attempt at altering the handling?

Later models from around 1990 had them fitted. I reckon to try to reduce the front end weight bias & make the back end less skittish.

I thought that is what they were for, but was unsure if it was a factory mod. I will be removing them as the van will be carrying 6 people generally anyway, all I need to find now is two pairs of seats from an LDV mini bus. I was given a folding bench seat out of a Diahatsu Hijet with all the seat belts but the LDV seats come complete with the belt already mounted, ergo no drilling loads of  unnessersary holes everywhere.

Hello Robin, I think the MOVER model was a special edition with the extras on it as standard & the special paint job so as  to clear old stock before the new model came out. This is a common practice in the auto industry to shift stock.
I think your Mover is probably a 1989 model.
Cheers, Derek.
P.s. P.M. me your address & I will send you the refurb. photo`s C.D.

Mine is a 91 and has them and figured they were there to weight the back end down a bit.

1993 Vauxhall.  Plenty of weights under mine.

I'm going to remove them, now that I know they're not essential.

Spent this afternoon removing the weights from under the van and fitting a replacement exhaust (Cheers John  Grin )
The weights equated to 10 stone in total! I wonder how much that has cost in fuel over the years  Shocked

My 96 Suzuki and the previous K Vauxhall  have the weights. The other two Rascarrys  we've had didn't have them.
So I can say for sure that vans with the weights drive and handle far better when empty than those without. Although a bit of load makes them irrelevant. If you have them I'd therefore leave them in if you use the van empty. Petrol consumption increase will be negligible.
I've never had problems fitted exhausts to weighted vans though?
