Hello all,

I am new on here and according to my friends i am mental as i bought the Rascal (that is my profile picture) about 2 weeks ago. On the way home from buying it the carb went and i broke down. A long story short is that the garage fixed that and now it runs fine.

My main question having never owned a car/van/Rascal before is about the steering. I'm used to power steering so don't know what to expect but i am finding the steering is quite floaty on the van. At low speeds it is fine, but at high speeds (well, 60mph) it can be a bit scarey. The steering wheel can be turned a bit before the wheels turn on the van. I'm guessing this isn't normal and any movement on the steering wheel should be instantly seen on the front wheels?

This is not normal and you should get it looked into, Also check the tire pressure. Under load the front should be about 26PSI and rear 38PSI if memory serves.

Another thing is a small rusty line on my roof i need to get looked at asap. Any help on how to fix it would be great. I have also a bit of rust round the bottom hold that the aerial slots into. How best to fix that?

A mixture of sand paper, body filler and some paint is generally your best bet.

Also, it is a 1991 H reg, so should i not expect it to go over 60 withouth making a fuss. Not having a rev counter, i am conscienous of hammering it.

Cruise at 60-65Mph, the van should be capable of 85Mph if you ever need it to do so. However I would not recommend more than 80Mph for extended periods as you will see the temp gauge go right up.

I also need to wire up a stereo...

Drop me a PM for any help with that, I have done a whole load as have others.

Glad to help.

Thank you.

After my van got broke into Derek fixed it up and sorted the rust and fitted a new front bush.

My only real tasks on the list is sorting out the stereo and possibly installing a movement sensitive screamer alarm, which i may do both at the same time.

I assume i can just buy any modern stereo (that has it's own fuse) and install it by joining wires together? If so i will get back to you once i have got a stereo and some new speakers. Smiley

Indeed, any standard size (i.e. DIN) stereo will be fine Wink

Hmm, the van is now pulling to the left a bit so want to check the tire pressure. You mention the psi under load. What should they be when the van is empty?
