I always thought about this myself but I couldn't bring myself to cut up the floor etc to shoehorn a larger engine in.

If I was to do it, though, it would be a 100bhp 1.3 from a Suzuki Swift with a Suzuki carry gearbox (and yes they do mate up). I found a web site about a guy in Australia doing this conversion at the minute and the engine actually fits under the front seats with minimal body alterations.

However - I do agree with Derek. Having worked on a lot of Rascals I wouldn't be very happy travelling at any great speed although I have done 70mph in a Rascal no problem. There's very little structural integrity at the front of the van to protect the driver and passenger. The cabin is essentially the crumple zone.
