Well I really want a camper van, i want to be able to take the grandhildren out for a cook up in the New Forest. I found one up the road from me, I like it, it looks tidy and I really want it. My dilema is that to get it, I would have to sell my van first, then probably add some money to it to pay for it. Don't want to sell my lovely van, then find out that the camper has sold. Would be gutted if mine sold then the camper drove like a plastic pig, not to sure how much more fuel these things use, it's not the pop top kind, it's the caravanette type. Has a years mot but that could mean anything, what would you guys do.... I am thinking of tossing a coin, but if it doesn't go my way, best out of three....

If it's a bambi, you will find quite a bit of difference in performance & handling. I have both a van & a bambi, the camper is a bit more juicy than the van, and is only really happy around 50mph! How much is the camper your after? Cheer Mark

Hi Pirate, The camper is £1500 but could probably get it knocked down a bit, tho I am not sure if that's wise if the petrol consumption is quite high. It would have to be my main vehicle and I would have to drive it round the city and short journeys, I only drive about 45 mph tops, so not bothered about speed, but the extra cost of fuel would not be good. It's a more modern type of camper, not the real boxy shape, rounder on the edges if you know what I mean. I will be going back to look so I will take note of the year, mileage etc.

£1500 is about right for a reasonable example, but at that money, it wont hang about! by what you say it may not be a bambi, possibly an elddis nipper, or maybe a romahome, if the latter, the body is demountable, so when you dont need a camper you get a pickup Driven carefully i would say it wont be a lot heavier on the gas, i have seen claims of 45mpg, but in the real world closer to 30-35mpg. Do go and have a look though, have a drive if possible, let us know what you think. Cheers Mark

Hi jj, you are right, I would love one of them pop top thingies.... however, when I took a look at the plans that someone kindly posted on here, it all looked way too confusing, I am not great at chippying, so I would have to find a doner van at a scrappy somewhere and have the bits away. Could be a long wait.

Hi, just to add a bit, I've a Rascal Romahome, I don't think I get more than 28-30mpg. I've seen claims of 45 too, it's deamland :-). 1500 sounds reasonable, for that I would expect the pod to be in good condition, as well as the pick up. I'll be selling mine shortly but looking for quite a bit more, but then I've lots of new bits and it's an amazingly clean pod.

Yeah, I have been having a think, and the fuel thing is bothering me a bit. The whole reason for getting my wee van, was it enables me to stay on the road.... I was becoming limited because of fuel costs, I don't think that it would be a good idea if I am going to have to fuel up more often. Am going to keep an open mind for now.... if anyone else is interested, I can go and take some piccies of it. Jen
