Hi Guys,

My vans playing up a bit.  Have concluded that it can only be the carb.  I've tried to get the O rings and gaskets required to recondition it without any luck and figure my best option is to just buy one.  Does anybody know where I can pick one up?

Cheers

I'm afraid not.  I'm pretty confident it's the carb though.  She's been playing up for a long time struggling under acceleration and I've excluded all other options (timing, plugs, leads, dizzy, dizzy cap, air filter, fuel filter, fuel tank vacuum, crap fuel ect).  I'm pretty sure she has a blocked jet as she is fine under higher revs but spluttery with low revs and harder acceleration i.e. pulling away and climbing hills, but I'm hesitant to take my carb apart without having (and being able to find) the replacement O rings and gaskets.

i have took mine apart on several occasions..with no problem had a poke around with some fine wire ...have you had the slow running jet off and cleaned it out..you dont have to split carb for that...its a starting point....the only small problem i had was first time i took it apart i had it stripped down for over week and the o-ring gasket that seals the two halves dried out and it shrunk and would not go back in its groove....i had to wrap it in a petrol soaked rag for a few hours and it expanded again...magic ...CHOP

Ok, great Advice! I'll have a look at the at the slow jet tomorrow.  I've had a look in the Haynes manual and it appears that I just unscrew the slow jet off the side off the carb and give it a clean,  far simpler than I expected.  Thanks for your help as always.  I'll report back tomorrow.

The slow jet is held in via a little clamp which is held by the screw(can be a bugger to undo)..once the clamp is off then the brass valve just pulls out ..it has a very tiny o-ring around it...so be carefull if its dry it can sometimes roll  out of its groove..good luck matt..make sure all the tiny holes are clear ...keep us informed...CHOP

Hi Guys,

I managed to get the jet out.  You were right Chop that screw is a pain to undo, had to tap it on the side with a hammer and screwdriver to loosen it as the screw head was mashed. The jet seemed perfectly fine with no blockages.  She still grumbles under hard acceleration or when I change up a gear to lower revs, but having said that she seems to be less hesitant when pulling away.  I’m feeling brave and might go for it and take the carb out next week for a proper clean.  I’ll no doubt be in contact with you early next week Derek, for a replacement carb   Smiley

Cheers again,

Matt
