My Rascal gearbox has a noisy front bearing. There is no noticeable play in the main shaft, but the noise is annoying.

Is it possible to replace the bearing without stripping the whole gearbox; mines a 5-speed box in an 1989 Rascal.

The top of the gearbox above the bearing looks like it can be taken off after unbolting from the lower half and the rear (fifth gear?) extension. I just worry that there may be all kinds of springs and selectors hiding under there waiting to fly out if I take the top off ! Unfortunately the Haynes manual only shows the gears and shafts, not the selectors etc. Has anyone got a more detailed exploded drawing they could post on this site please ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The five speeds always tend to whine at some point, mine does, annoying but still trundles on fine.

Gear selection probs? Clutch or cable adjustment for either??

The nut holding on the actuating arm on the top of the gearbox works loose causing the arm to flap about. Also the cable abutment plate on the side of the gearbox cracks which results in lost movement of the cables. Also the side cable "buckles up" as you move the lever also causing lost motion. As for gearbox rebuilds you need a couple of pullers to get it apart.  Derek.

maybe a tube of moly slip in the oil could help out matters for a while, and some in the rear axel while on the floor and dirty
