Hi everyone - just wanted to say hello! Me and my girlfriend have just bought a vauxhall rascal for the first time and we're both totally obsessed by it! Neither of us are what you would call "natural mechanics" but we're hoping to learn a few things so that we can get her in decent nick and keep her happily going so any tips will always be gratefully received. Hello and welcome.... I am no mechanic either, but there are plenty of clever people on here that can help if you have problems or need parts.
Post a piccy of your wee van when you get a chance. Smiley

Welcome to us lot!!
As Chop says, there's usually someone with a similiar experience if you need any help.

We had a forum before ( see OLD FORUM ) so if a subject you need is in there,

as Chop says,, 'Just Ask'!

thanks guys really appreciate the warm welcome. No doubt I will have lots of what seem to be very basic questions but we all have to start somewhere I suppose, so bear with me!!!

Jenxy - I noticed on the old forum that you were getting bees - me and my girlfriend are getting our bees in March. Maybe we should start a new Bee/Rascal combination enthusiast club!! Hahahahahah

Chop hates bees Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
I wouldn't want him to leave in disgust Grin
Only joking Chop.
Have you ordered a nuc? where are you getting them from?
I have to say it is a very pleasurable pastime but sadly I went the "cheap" route (as always) and some guy brought a "swarm" he had collected round for me. As a beginner, I knew no different. Turned out to ba a caste, with no laying queen. Then had to get a couple of frames of brood from a beekeeper friend. They produced a queen from that but again she didn't mate so sadly the colony never grew strong enough to survive the winter. My friend started last year quite late with a strong nuc and he was rewarded with 26 pounds of the finest honey ever.

We're really lucky, we joined the lancaster beekeeping club about this time last year and have spent all of last year learning (without bees - using someone else's apiary) and we've been promised a nuc from one of the established members in our club in march although because of the bad weather I am not sure how well their colonies have done yet. I am just hoping that they build up strong enough to survive what will hopefully be a mild winter but we shall wait and see!! We've just ordered our hive and most of our kit (we went with Thornes in the end as they weren't that expensive and have just ordered a couple of suits from ebay so we are all kitted up!!).

Pretty good that your mate got 26 pounds in year one especially if they got it late - I think I'll be happy if they survive year one and we manage to stop them swarming!! Combined with looking after the bees and doing our van up (it's a bit of rust bucket I'm afraid!!) I think I am going to be a very busy boy!!!!!

Welcome! :-)

It must be something in the oil, because we're also planning on getting bees - but probably next year (to join alongside the chickens!).

Beedford Rascal Appreciation Society perhaps?
