eerr Dell Boy... sorry this out of sequence I have been busy elsewhere... but
WD40 is a water dispersant .. yes and if you are drowned out and stranded this will get you up and running because it prevent the HT from tracking down the water course to earth. Of course I agree that silcon based sprays will seal a system but that's not much good to you when the electrics are soaking wet.
Anyhow WD40 is only a get out of jail free thing if you have a break down of insulation anyway thereafter the only way is to replace it with new ? and then seal it.. do we have an accord ?
Sorry to disagree mate but I guess that is allowed on this forum ??
Cheers
Mike

Hello Mike, Because on the WD 40 can it states water dispersant purchasers think it will solve there damp problems. Yes, the aerosol spray blows some of the water away temporarily but then leaves a gooey mess on everything which actually attracts dirt & water. It gives me the right hump cleaning that mess of everything before it all can be sealed with something that actually puts a waterproof seal where it`s required. In working on hundreds of Rascarry`s I hardly ever change H.T. leads or distributor caps. I checked today & discovered I have 5 new caps & 3 sets of H.T. leads in stock because I never have need to fit them. What I do is clean all electrical parts with thinners & keep them clean so do not have problems in wet weather. WD 40 is good protection against rust & is o.k. as a penetrating oil though there are better on the market, if you can find them, so I say use it for that & that alone. Derek.
