I never had brake issues with my van, but the brakes on my bambi have caused similar swearing to Duncan  Shocked
These really need to be in top condition to stop it, there is a fair bit of weight in a bambi!
I have rebuilt my front callipers, fitted new pads & changed the fluid, now they actually stop it Grin

An empty van at 750kg is one thing, a Bambi at near 1400kg the brakes are definitely not "more than adequate" requiring, in my opinion, an excessive force to lock the front wheels.  Brake fade is another serious problem when fully loaded and faced with a sustained downhill braking session.

Of course. I was refering to the standard van/pick-ups - it doesn't surprise in the slightest that Bambis can suffer brake fade. It was a common problem on the longer wheelbase Merc T2 307 series vans which had small wheels (and hence small discs and drums) for a vehicle of its size. Scary when it happened first time but you soon learned to cadence brake on hills. I presume thats why the  Sprinters have slightly bigger wheels.
