Thanks for the welcome.
I live near Bromley - Kent.
Ive just been given a Rascal y reg with only 6k on the clock. My uncle bought it brand new and I dont thinks its been driven since 2001 - thats the date of the last tax disc anyway. Its always been garaged in a very good dry garage. Ive just ordered a manual from ebay but untill it arrives I'd like to start it but Im a bit concerned I might damage something. The van and engine look immaculate, but apart from pumping up the tyres Ive done nothing else. The battery is dead, but I havent found it yet, there's a large plastic liner in the back and I suspect its under that. What I want to do it get it started without damaging it and then take it to a garage for a good service.
Any thoughts on what I should do before starting it.
Thanks

Hello Steve,
My yard/workshop is just up the road from you in Dartford.
I have been repairing & refurbishing Rascals & supercarry`s for over ten years now & have worked on hundreds.
If you want I could sort yours, service & m.o.t. it & get you on the road.
Are you sure its "Y" reg because the last Rascals were "L" reg?
If you have the black plastic load liner in the back lift it out & the battery is under a black metal cover in the floor with a handle in the middle for lifting it.
I carry a lot of new & used spares as well.

Derek.

The year letter is the first one before the numbers.
Should be "C" to "L" 1985 to 1993.
Look forward to seeing your van.
Cheers,
Derek.

I've been searching everywhere online to try and get a brake master cylinder for my 1988 Bedford Bambi campervan (Rascal base), but no luck. Can someone pls advise me if this part is interchangeable with a Suzuki Super Carry cylinder or if I'll have to keep looking for a Rascal part? Can't find anyone carrying it as a spare or advertising breaking for spares. Fingers crossed, she won't get through MOT and really don't want to scrap her!! Thanks  Undecided

The Suzuki Supercarry is identical to a rascal, all mechanical parts are the same, Dellboy or Tim will probably have one in stock.

if it been parked up for a long time do a full service on her.
plugs points condenser leads new oil and filter drop the old water out of the rad, put in fresh but make sure you always put coolant(anti freeze) in with the water prolongs the life of the engine put some oil additive in with the oil  give the carb a good clean out with carb cleaner, make sure your battery is fully charged because these vans need a good kick in the arse to start. make sure when you turn the ignition on without starting the engine listen for the fuel pump clicking it will go hell for leather at first then slow done to 1 click per second or so.
pump the foot pedal twice to get the carb wet bit of choke if needed then go for it, mine was parked up for 2 years i did all listed above and fair play to her it started bit of smoke out of the back and i have been using here ever since.
