Have you got 102 inches of inner cable pulled out of the dash/cable outer or is it shorter than this?

Cut off the frayed end cleanly so you dont have any odd strands off wire sticking out.
Feed the cable into the outer sheath all the way.
Through th rear engine cover get to the carb, find the swivel connector with the small clamping screw.
Back the screw off a bit & feed the inner cable through it until there is no slack in the cable.
Tighten the small clamping screw.
It`s a fiddly job but not complicated.

thanks derek your an absolute diamond will get to work on it straight away the only issue is the wire at the begining of the cable seems to be unravelled where it connects to the metal stem ajoined to the knob and this metal stem looks sealed so cant cut it at the top and open the stem to insert cable past the bad bit  going to sort the other end and will let you know how i get on thanks again

hi Derek
cable went through but has not come out other end think i have cut too much off , so now i definately need a new cable  but the length being 120 inches may prove to be a problem

why not shorten the outer cable the same amount if its like mine you should have plenty of slack ..i could maybe get away with chopping about 300mm off it and still reach ok

Hello Alan,
I have 104" long new cables for £20.00 plus £4.00 postage if cutting some of the outer back doesn`t work.
