Just fitted Powerspark ignition today. Massive improvement, although symptoms point towards the points gap having closed up. Looking at the state of the earth lead on the baseplate it may have contributed to the hesitation.
Anyway, the coil is a ballasted type and the new one is not. Where is the resistor hidden? Rather than put a new wire from the ignition switch I wanted to reduce any extra wiring and simply bypass it.

I am thinking of fitting one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bedford-Rascal-Electronic-Ignition-Kit-POWERSPARK-/110690276933?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19c5a79645#ht_4073wt_1102

Is it the same as you fitted?
I am getting sick of replacing points & condenser every six months, so this looks ideal.

I had nightmares with the simonbbc ones as did a couple of others.
Since then I have had correspondence with him & he owned up to having sold some duff ones which he wouldn`t admit to at the time when I was battleing to get the things to work properly.
Because he wouldn`t own up to there being a problem I persevered for two days trying to get the duff one to work.
In the end he sent another kit which I fitted & it worked straightaway but failed a couple of months later.
I gave up on them & refitted the points.
This was all on a customers Bambi.
If anyone out there has had good service from them I would like to hear it. If it was well made & reliable it is a quick & easy fix & I would try them again.
I have an american electronic system on my 1960 Cresta & that has been 100% reliable but is three times the price.
You pay for Quality.

Indeed.  When I've replaced points on vehicles before I've always used Lumenition.  Pricey, but has never let me down.

For our little vans the electronic module is part PMA50 and the fitting kit is FK605.

I have to agree with Duncan, we have fitted loads of the lumignition ones, and only had a couple cause trouble, and this was resolved no problem.
They are expensive, but as always you get what you pay for.
We used to get a good discount, but as we only bought "now and then" they stopped our discount, but if we could get a few customers to buy at the same time we might be able to get a better deal. Current retail price is around £200+vat for the kit. Comes with all parts required to fit it. It uses an infra-red beam and a chopper blade as a switching device.

Had a root through today of stock.
I have a used pukka Suzuki electronic ignition. I can do a kit with this comprising fitting instructions, adaption wiring harness, modified to fit distributor & used coil.
These mods are required to fit it to the pre electronic Rascarrys.
Cost is £150.00.
The Suzuki system is bullet proof.
I also have a brand new old stock Suzuki electronic distributor & can do the same kit using it for £250.00.

Still not fitted this - will try it in spring, but think I'll keep a set of points and a condensor handy...

I have bought a Gammatronix system from Ebay, (200540069425) it retains the points, but gives a better spark & the points will not suffer pitting & apparently will last for 50K miles!
Will report on the improvement (or not) when i fit it  Wink

Gammatronix unit now fitted!
I replaced the points with new ones (as recommended), removed the condenser & connected up the four wires to the unit, van started first time!
With timing checked, it was time for a road test, van is running nice & smooth (at last!).
So I am quite happy, as this was a cheap fix, no more duff condensers to replace, it will be interesting to see if it improves fuel economy as well as it has improved starting  Wink

Will do Chop, I will get another for the Bambi if this runs fine, a nice cheap option that gets rid of those b****y dodgy condensers, I used to run my reliant kitten on a similar sparkrite box & had no hassle with it.
