BAMBI BACK FIRES AND STALING

I went to start Eric on Wed it started after a time lots of back firing and lots of choke then cutting out, I cleaned the distributor points and
rotor arm but just the same. Could it be the the carb? or the condencer?  not sure HELP OR INFO PLEASE

Back firing was probably unburnt fuel collecting in the exhaust if you had been turning it over for a while.
Be carefull doing this. I have had two Bambis in with burst exhaust back boxes due to the unburnt petrol exploding.
I. When starting, if it hasn`t fired by the third turn the engine will be flooded & wont start.
2. Push choke in, press accelerator to the floor & turn over till it fires & then adjust the choke till it runs sweet.
3. New points/condenser. Gap points at 0.6 m.m. Make sure condenser body is earthed to distributor body via shiny metal.
4. Check ignition timing.

My money is on the condenser, they can give all sorts of starting/running problems, i always carry a spare.

Have you checked the Distributor cap and HT leads, just a small amount of damp inside a cap can cause a lot of misfiring.
Moisture can seep into the HT leads on Damp mornings and so it could also be the ht leads have become porous .
Also plugs and points need to be right for good winter starting.
Also check Ignition Coil Tower for cleanliness . HT sparks can "Track" on dirt/grease.

That's exactly what happened to my new purchase today, an exhaust pipe and silencer went bang. I picked it up near Bristol, having seen it last weekend, and asked for some work to be done on it, (especially a service and new cambelt, and a new music machine). Drove all the way down, but 2 miles from home, my friend who had been following me, noticed 1st intermitant smoke, then sparks, flashed me to pullover ASAP, and just as we got to a layby, a flame shot out and a big bang occurred. As it came with a warranty (Auto Protect), I am hoping they will pay my recovery costs and a replacement exhaust and put this matter right. Just wish I had found this quote Derek before I set off this morning. It was the recovery mechanics who pointed out the problem. Oh and I checked the exhaust it was in good order.

Forgot to say that the mechanics who came to my rescue said it was in good condition, apart from the exhaust

Is it running on all cylinders o.k?
The only thing I can think would cause the explosion is a burnt exhaust valve causing poor fuel burn letting unburnt fuel collect in the box & then get ignited by flame/sparks escaping through the defective valve.

Got me there, wots a cylinder?? hey I'm a Janner Maid,  and have no idea the workings of an engine.  Oh don't tell me my head gasket is going to blow as well. The recovery mechanics said it could be the carboretta flooding (a mechanic friend said the same thing), and the excess fuel getting into the exhaust and igniting. Is that the same reason as you said?

Hi Janner Maid had all the same problems as you, back firing stalling,
no power. I took note of what everbody was telling me and found out it was muck in the car bareta,all sorted now and hope your problems ar not as bad as people are saying but hang in there when sorted you Will have great fun aim sure  Noel

Could be the carburettor flooding.
Its really not easy to advise you as you wont understand what I am saying & what requires to be done to identify the problem.
I do an exchange carburettor service. The carb is cleaned inside & out, set up & tested that all is correct.
£25.00 plus £8.00 postage.
Did you buy the van from Exminster outside Exeter?

Thanks for post. I will see what the warranty people say 1st, then the motorhome company. No chance today, manic in work.
