Carb Overhaul

Anyone know if carb overhaul kits are available? Or what exact type our Mikuni carbs are?
My van keeps cutting out when stopping and won't idle. Sometimes it will heal itself for a few days but then does it again.
I'm guessing I need to remove the carb to clean out the slow running jet so it would be nice to give it an overhaul with a kit if possible.

you dont need to remove the carb to take out the slow running jet ...remove alternator its only 3 easy bolts..and your in....but sometimes the screw holding it in is difficult to get out...but a few whacks with impact driver usually does it...

Hi Chop - I guessed it was possible. I just figured if the slow jet is full of crud then the rest of the carb probably is too - so I may as well take it out and clean the lot. Fuel consumption seems a bit high so a good clean out should improve it.

OK...good luck...but try not to tear any diaphrams...and keep the rubber seal in petrol because when it dries out it expands and is a bugger to get re-seated ..good squirt with carb degreaser and a poke around with thin wire and blast with compressed air is about as good as it gets ...i did mine a while ago..very fiddly..bits all over the place.. stinking of petrol ..was it worth it..NO.it didnt make a difference at all...haha...good luck

Well I took the carb off. Glad I did as there was no way I could have undone the slow jet screw in situ! Had to resort to hammer and chisel to get it to move even with the carb in a vice. Surprised to see no obvious crap in carb but cleaned out the slow jets with wire. As all the screws seemed virtually unmoveable I did not do a complete strip down but did open up the float chamber and took off bottom plate too. Again looked clean but cleaned out main jet etc.
But what a difference! Idling problem is solved and the little piglet idles sweetly. Running seems better too, more responsive and better take off.
So a worthwhile job. Definitely recommended if anyone is having idling/running problems that appear to be fuel or carb. Only cost me £2-99 for a tin of carb cleaner!

Ah Chop that was just my way of saying 'do it yourself'. I would not not want to insult you by suggesting you would actually need someone to do this job for you!
But of course, thanks for the advice!
