Hi all,

I was driving in some of this heavy rain that we were having, and I've found a bit more than a trickle comming down from the panel directly behind the passenger side headlights. Unfortunately water that gets in here sits under the rubber mat and sits there rotting metal. Any hints how to plug this one?

Thanks!

Take the headlight bezel off & check the two bolt holes are covered.
If not cover them with duct tape or similar.
Take the bumper off & check the bottom ones.
I am working on a Bambi [welding] at present that has the whole front panel rusted all over the place. Its like a colander & is about as good as one at keeping the rain out.

Ok thanks gang. I'll have ago in the light.

Should I also try and remove the headlamps from the enclosures so I can get around the back to take a look, or is that area fully sealed already?

P.S If I need any welding I'll know where to go!

Cheers

No, there is no point in removing headlights.
I`m seeing rotten Rascals in my dreams [nightmares!!!] we have done so many this year.
As every year passes they get worse but  "We have the technology, we can rebuild them".
Check the inside of the front panel for rust streak staining.

Hi again gang,

I finally had a chance to take off those bezels, and on each side there were two bolts with some sort of transparent film which were in a pretty sorry state, however the bolts themselves looked healthy enough. I peeled off the existing film and replaced it with some duct tape. Job done?

I've attached a picture of where the water was getting in from the inside.

Should I still remove the bumper? I can't see that any water is getting in that low or through the bolts. Or is there some place behind it that water gets driven up?  P.S if yes any tips for getting off that lower bolt  that's right by the gas-pedal more easily? Last time I had to get it off it was a bit of a nightmare.

Cheers.

The headlamp bowls are masticed in place & it looks like that may be letting water by.
Take the headlamp bezels off & seal the joint. Could be a rust hole there.
To undo the bottom bumper bolt first remove the plastic throttle cable cover to make it easier.
