I'm sure its actually very good although I'm not so sure of its necessity. I had a late Super Carry which had electronic ignition as standard and it was fine but no better or worse in the wet/cold than previous points ignition Rascals we'd had previously. A well maintained points ignition system is fine.
Personally I wouldn't bother. I'd ensure my ignition system was in tip top condition and correctly set up and always carry a spare set of points, rotor arm and condenser plus some WD40! Buy them and you'll have an awful lot of change left from £50 to spend on something that the van might need more.
But plenty people swear by electronic ignition so I'm sure someone here will offer an alternative view!!

Dont do it. Its a cheep kit that some people on here have had trouble with. If i were you and wanted to go to electronic ignition id try the luminition kit or try out megajolt type of kits.

I bought this exact kit about a month ago. Others may have different experiences, but for me it was nothing but trouble. It threw the timing so far out I had to remove the distributor and rotate it to get the timing right, and once it was timed correctly, the engine didn't run well at all. It would splutter and hesitate on acceleration, and the problem magically disappeared when I replaced it with a set of new points.

The seller was really nice about it and has just sent me a new one, before I even sent the old one back, but I'm reluctant to put it in now the van is running so well. So either it was faulty, or I put it in wrong (is this possible?), or they may just not be ideally suited to Rascals. Does anyone have a Powerspark kit running OK?

The Lucas coil seems to work fine!

I would not bother with those kits, both my van & bambi run fine with points, better off spending your money on a new set of leads......

my opinion is that we used to fit the good "luminition" type as used in racing cars etc, which cost over £180+vat, and I found a marginal improvement in cold drivability, but we still fit points and set the gap with a dwell meter, and ignition timing with a £300+ Snap-on Timing light, and get very few problems ( can't think of one) .
My advice is spend the money on new contact set ( another name for points) ( £3.97+vat from us)
Check and replace if required, spark plugs, high tension leads, distributor cap and rotor arm.
I rarely change the condenser either , only when it is found to be faulty.
You must replace the points every 5-6,000 miles and set/check the ignition timing at the same time , after you have first fitted and gapped the contact set/points.
We can supply any of the above items.

I have had grief with the red electronic ignition kits.
When they work they work well but quality is very variable.
If you do fit one it should work straightaway.
If it doesn`t send it straight back to the supplier. Dont waste time trying to get it too work. I wasted two days trying to get a defective one to work.
