It can be done, but some of the very late ones require some alterations as the camper body will foul the cab. I have swapped over rascal to rascal etc, but not on to a Diahatsu, but somewhere I have a link to a man who knows a lot about the job, I will see if I can find it. I know the Piaggio porter version is not possible on the 2009 onwards model as the Cab was altered. Regards Rascalvan www.bedfordrascal.com01249 721350

Hello thanks for replying so quickly. I have seen a couple of suzuki flatbeds which I am told are suitable for the transfer. I would really like to keep the origonal 1986 rasal pickup but it is a bit too rusty for me. Got me to france and back though. They are great things aren`t they

Easier to do the welding repairs if the rascal is a good runner & reliable.

Hi dell boy thanks for your advice, I would like to do that but the engine has lost compression according to the mechanic. He has taken the camper pod off already. THere aren`t any sides to it either, Last year I took it to three garages for them to sort the timimg and point settings, but after each visit the van stalled after a few weeks. Fortunatly I live on a hill, and found that once it got started it tootled along happily unless I had to park it in the rain for more than a couple of hours. I got the impression they couldn`t deal with a vehicle of a certain age! If anyone wants the pickup to have as a project they can ask me about it. I`ve bought a suzuki pickup, ex council but am having great difficulties getting anyone to insure it when I tell them I`m going to put a camper pod on it. Has any one done something similar? Rascals and suzukis are related aren`t they? Will I get thrown out of this club for the suzuki swap?

ayup christinem. the specialist camper insurers will take on your roma, basicaly they are a pickup with a pod on the back so i dont see a problem taking it off one and putting it onto another . as for the garages i`m lost for words . where are you based one of us may be local to you . if you are near to me i`d be prepared to have a look for you . i`m not in the garage buisness but i know my way around the rascals . noah

Hi there Ive just spent ages getting a reply together and blobbed again. Its cause ive got carrots for fingers and this new fangled machine is so delicate. Thanks noah and hippyperson I live in barlick near skipton and would totally appreciate a bit of help with my dilemma. I was happy with my 86 rascal and had it welded extensively but have been told the engine is a gonner and now Ive bought a Suzuki pickup! Wish I`d met you lot before. Ive been looking around the club site and think you`re all brill and hope to get to know you all bit better

well i`m back again, hope you got yourself sorted titch. The suzuki and camper pod are being joined together. Ashley, the lovely guy from pendle caravan services is doing the job, he has welded some jacks to metal stands so that I can use the pick-up whenever I want to cart things about. So the rascal pickup needs to be sold . I`ll put it on the for sale site here. Otherwise it will have to be scrapped which is a shame after all the welding work that has been done on it,
