hi all
just lately having starting trouble, thought it was battery related as it drained pretty quickly when trying to start,so one new battery later im still having troublehad to get the booster on it twice so far this week, starts like a dream when thats on.
my starting  is clutch down choke half way out one pump on throttle turn key,if it does not fire up after 3 turn overs choke in and start again.this has usually done the trick and im off,but not this week 1 out of 3 times.
what else should i maybe take a look at.
cheers mark

In terms of the battery side of things you may want to check your alternator is putting out ~14.4v when revving the engine a little. You can do this by putting a meter on the battery while you give it a rev.

Provided that is ok, my general points when having starting issues have been:

1) Timing
2) Condenser
3) Dirty carb
4) Worn/Dirty distributor cap

So you may want to get those checked as a starting point.

pull choke fully out ...its what its for...turn key..she should fire up then adjust choke so shes not revving to hard ....if battery keeps going flat then you definatly have a alternator problem..assuming all wireing is ok.....

choke should be off withing first mile or two

Sounds like your points have closed up. Set the gap at 0.6 m.m. Not as stated in the manuals.
Check  & adjust timing if required.

Starting from cold.
Full choke.
Two sqirts on the throttle pedal.
Turn it over & it should fire.

If it does`nt push choke right in, foot to the floor on the throttle, turn it over till it fires then give it the necessary choke to keep it running.
If everythig is working correctly the engine floods in two or three turns of the key & it will not start until cleared as above.

hi all
have just stuck a meter on to check alternator and reads
engine off 12.84 volt
engine running 12.72 volts
engine running with load (headlights on ) 12.43
engine on and slight revs 12.97 -13.01 volts
does this look like a health enough alternator Huh
cheers mark

yes the heat shield shares the same nut nearest to fan...

the other earth is at the gearbox mounting bottom bolt test for continuity on both obviously disconnecting one at a time
