Hi everyone, love the site.

I am based in New Zealand where the rascal is called the Super Carry and they are pretty rare. I am looking to buy one this weekend, its an '85, 970cc and has done 540,000k. Is this ridiculously high and not worth it? Or are they really hardcore and just keep running? I do need a small van for my business and i know they are cheap to run but is this one a bit too old?
What should i be looking for and asking about when i go to see the van on the weekend?

Its WOF (MOT) runs out next february so it was recently approved and has a new gear box and brake cylinder.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

This is the link to the van for people to have a look.

Ask where did he get his WOF done, I had trouble starting mine before I gave her a major service, replaced alot of stuff and she runs mint now.

I would most certainly question the milage because if the milage were true it would equate to about 350,000 miles which for a small petrol van would be extroardinary, almost unbelivable.

My thought is that the seller doesn't know much about vehicles and the last figure on the milage shown is, in fact, the tenths of a km number and thus giving a more realistic figure for milage which would compare favourably with others of the similar age.

A picture of the odometer reading would very much help.

The photo of the speedo on the link shows a different mileage?
I have heard of a rascal doing 250,000 miles, but it would be well worn !

None of the areas where they rust badly have been pictured. I wonder why? Ask for pictures of top of suspension units under front seats & all wheel arch areas plus front floor pan before committing yourselve.

hi all, thanks for your advice.

I checked the van out this morning. The speedo was incorrectly read so was in fact in the 50,000s not the 500,000s. But still at most i think it would be in the 250,000 area.
I checked the whole vehicle from front to end and no structural problems except a few little rust spots, nothing major. Wheel arches were fine, floor pan was fine and the suspension units under the seats were good.

One problem was an oil leak somewhere, she said that it just needs topping up with oil every few months, and this was what she had been doing the few years she has owned the vehicle. I had a good look with the torch and couldn't see where it was coming from. The oil patch on the driveway was about the size of a dart board, with a few darker fist sized patches where the drips were recent.

I haven't made any decisions yet, i will go back tomorrow with a mate for a second look. The oil is the only concern for me at the moment.

o hope not, had to change the gasket on my libero and it was quite pricey.
Are repairs and maintenance on these cheaper than your average vehicles or are parts quite rare?

I paid $18 to replace mine, my mechanic did all the maintenance on my van. You'll find parts for these vans alright.

Is the steering wheel a Suzuki one?
