You are so missing the point.
IT'S EVERY VEHICLE OVER 25 YEARS OLD not just rascals so the status quo won't chamge and nothing will magicly increase in value.
Wake up and smell the coffee, sooner or later where London goes the rest will eventually have to follow so you to can look forward to conjestion zones and low emission zones but Historic vehicles are EXEMPT from low emission zones and that's only one benefit that comes with being in the Historic Vehicle Taxation Class.
I couldn't care less about VED, for old vehicles it's EMMISSIONS that matter and as they get tighter and tighter we will eventually be legislated off the road unless we can be a part of this countries Historic Vehicle Fleet.
The cut off date to be included in the Historic Vehicle taxation class is 31st December 1972. NOTHING BUILT AFTER THAT DATE CAN EVER BE IN THAT HISTORIC CLASS UNLESS THE EXCISE REGULATIONS ARE CHANGED BACK TO WHAT THEY WERE WHEN IT STARTED rather than be left in the mess created by a spiteful Mr Brown in 1997.
Like I said, smell the coffee and look at the wide picture

You are very accurate there Claire, it's about preserving our heritage too, from Tractors to Cars to Commercials to Buses etc etc etc. Without the likes of, and shows & business etc (including my own!) that survive because of it all. Get Yer Vote In Folks!!!

BUT its the older vehicles that cause more emissions ...and its because of those vehicles that the emmisions law came in..they are trying to rid all older vehicles because of the dangers and harm they present ...in large cities where a high volume of traffic is then the amount of emissions does have ill-effect.....not so much in the suburbs and open country....they havnt banned old vehicles they are being patient and phasing them out natrually..they will eventually die of old age through rust and lack of parts etc...the historic cars pre 72 have to be a large percentage original parts and thats not going to last long ....some will survive and end up in museums where they should be .preserved for future generations to enjoy..enjoy it while it lasts..

Ooooooh Chop, But there is a phenomenal industry related to the 'historic' vehicles movement, absolutely way way in excess of folks understanding. From sandblasting to chroming, painting, manufacturing, re manufacturing, the shows & their movements, glass making, insurance policies, re-trimming & upholstery, DECALS & signwriting, tyres etc etc etc. And of course most of which is actually MANUFACTURED in this country of ours, you wouldn't send an irreplaceable part to China to be chromed for example..I know what you are saying Chop, but the figures relating to the emissions an 'older' vehicle may produce are a drop in the ocean compared to the shit a cat converter chucks out on the 2 mile 'kids run to school' for example, astronomically inefficient from cold. It is the sole purpose of my business for example, and I do ship worldwide WITHOUT the help of the EU, it's the Post Office & internet that is my backbone for the supply & availability side of things and I'm proud of most of the work I do for the 'historical' importance of such machinery. You aren't related to that wimp of a man named Blair are you Chop, it sounds it!! Anyway Chop, nothing personal, but I'm right (again) and you are wrong! Titch

Then there's the famous sticker in a cars back window, 'My car may be old & slower, but it's paid for and in front of YOU!'
80% of new vehicles on the road aren't paid for, they are owned by finance companies, fact.
I'm glad that I have never owed anyone £1000's of pounds for a vehicle, like I am that I don't have a credit card, I trundle on within my reaches, steadily..........................................................................................

Im not against you...as much as anybody..i love older vehicles ....
and long may they continue...thats not what im saying.
But like triggers brush on only fools and horses...can you call a car historic when its built of new parts... you cant get a law passed to allow old historic cars to be exempt when they are built of new parts

the historic vechile are mantained to a higher standard than most modern one and better loked after ok they might be hard er to get the bits for but if you maintain it then the bit will last longer and the other thing is they where made not to be disposable after few years. The cost of a car compared todays car prices where high so u looked after them no bit of soft thin metal decent thickness skins

Yep,
trucks now have to put an extra additive for the fuel, many of the big manufacturers offer a vehicle with an inbuilt system JUST to please London & the likes, this adds tremendous cost to the already excessive costs of running fleets of wagons, another stab in the wallet for us but 'Brownie Points' for the dick 'eads that make the laws to comply with Brussells. Our Politicians are the only brown nosers on this whole planet earth that are 'thinking' they are the do gooders of civilisation, but in fact they are the ONLY pillocks on the planet that do it, Good 'Owd Blighty went out the window, the muppets think for points wheras we think for ourselves and survival financially, ..because we have to.
I agree there ought to be 'cleaner' fuels if possible, but engines of old are rebuilt to a precision that is close on perfect, modern facilities make for more efficient engines but also despite the perception assumed, black smoke does not mean necessarily more poison, especially in diesel engines. It's a fact.
Don't think I'm shouting at anyone please, especially Chop me 'owd mate, but one should get an 'inside' view of these engines if possible, it's a fascinating subject and as always the truth isn't realised, what seems to be the way nowadays is a 'degree' in some form of 'ology bollocks a lot of text book education and absolutely no physical hands on experience of engine builds and manufacturing processes.
It's not often I'm wrong, but I'm right again here!!!

Naaaarrrr Chop, I reckon you'd love to spend a day watching this sorta work, owd lads with a roll up sticking out the corner of the mouth, essential for concentration on a lathe. Unless of course they are wearing immaculate nylon romper suits with a sewn on label with 'Technician' on it. That'd be the sort that don't drink, smoke, swear or take sugar in tea, use contraceptives and wear kinky rubberised gloves to protect their little dinkies
Like my old man used to say, took him 20 years to be officially a 'technician' not pass an exam or sleep with an Oxford educated poof!
