Oh my god, I have known the brakes wernt as they should be on my van for a while, so this afternoon I had a rummige inside the rear drums, what did I find,,, 3 out of the 4 pistons seized solid, the thing was stopping on front discs only, so in the time honoured way of doing things I took a bar and a hammer and tickled the pistons out of the cylinders. cleaned them the best I could, rubber greased the lot and re assembled them, now I know they wont last forever in this condition but the day took me back 30 years when cylinders were forever sticking and as a kid spent most of my time tickling and rubbing, On modern cars with discs all round its not even heared of, I was again 21 years old today, curly hair, fixing the car in the afternoon for a run out with the lads in the evening, cruising in my Triumph Herald,  memories eeh

It had a sun roof, wooden dash, loose grip on the road when turning corners over 40 mph, all round engine access that we all dream of these days, Trunnions on steering that stripped if not greased every week, 5,000 mile oil change, green and a cream stripe, sold it to a mate who broke it within weeks, second car,, viva HA, much more a car for a well heeled bird magnet like me,,, then not now

maybe thats where it started to go down hill....

talking about down hill....when we were kids ..we had a vauxhall viva bonnet for sledging down a big hill in the snow ....the vauxhall viva bonnet had a raised line in the middle which acted like a rudder and kept it going dead straight in the snow absolutly perfect fot sledging ...we used to get 15 kids on that bonnet....them were the days...

I miss the flairs and tanktops more than the hair, anyhow I was speaking to a friend who stated bald men were considered masculine, so now all I have to do now is turn back the years

When I first bought Bambi I had to drive her back Scotland down to London. I nearly shat myself at the first set of lights but got the hang of it the rest of the way. Think driving a train!

Months later the M.O.T man was horrified. He practically got down on his knees and begged me to go slow, and he is one of the most frank people I have ever met. The poor M.O.T man didn't need a heart attack so I kept my scotland to london trip to my self Smiley Suffice to say, I wasn't going to get a renewal without new cylinders Smiley

Siezed solid.

Mine has had new cylinders, new shoes, new discs, new pads.  The brakes get better and better (they couldn't have got any worse).

It's going up to my mechanic tonight along with a new set of HEL brake hoses which he's fitting tomorrow  Grin

Mine's never been too bad, not as good as the daily hack car, but always thought it stopped pretty well considering its probably nearly and tonne and half loaded up.

From what I gather Bedford Romahome's have better brakes than their Citroen C15 equivalent.....
