Hello everyone long time no speak .. bvut now I need some diagnostic help.
My trusty Van past its MOT March with flying colours only to dump its coolant in the sump on the way home. Head Gasket Blown ? or so I thought. Removed head .. suitabvly skimmed and reassembvled with new caskets and belts lovely for all of 20 mins only to find water back in the oil.. so anyone got any good ideas what this could be. The head gasket was done by a professional and reliable technician (not me) so what ideas have you got .. The engine is running perfectly but I could do with a bit less water in the lubricant !!!
Much appreciate any help and guidance... any other weak spots I should be looking for because I think the head gasket is working OK.
??
Thanks Guys and Gals

One or more core plugs leaking in the head. Usually rusted through. There below the camshaft. Your head gasket hadn`t failed. Very rare for rascal head gasket failure to put water in oil. I would have strong words with your technician regarding failure to check core plugs. I tap them all over with a sharp implement to check for soundness.

Another thought. When the head is removed water gets in the oil as well as what was already in it. Did you do a thorough oil change?

Whip the rocker box off & see if there is an oil/water mess in there.

Thanks that sounds a possible didn't think about core plugs in the head.. will start with a look in this area.
I am pretty sure the engine was well empty before refilling..
Anyhow .. lets see what we find.. great advice and support as always .

Don't panic just yet!! This happened to me a couple of years ago when I did a head gasket. After the job I restarted it and found mayo (oil/water mix) forming in the water but after a couple of flushes of the radiator all was fine. I know that in my case when I lifted the head a lot of water sloshed into the oilways and oil into the water. This was almost certainly the cause. Despite being emptied beforehand there is still plenty in there so cross contamination is likely to occur.
If I was you I would change the oil and run it for a bit but keep a good eye on it in case it is a leaky coreplug.
Hopefully after that you should see no more water.

YIPEE... Listen up everyone
Derek you are a genius .. is there nothing you don't know about these quirky vans.. your diagnosis was spot on .. took the rocker cover off pressurised the system and what a lovely fountain I had from the head core plug. So provided I can get hold of new said core plug all should be well .. I should have posted the problem earlier the head off twice was justs a waste of a good gasket and few more skinned knuckles... Hey Ho.
Thanks again and for all other contributions

Hello All, we keep both sizes of the core plugs in stock now, Suzuki prices are too much, so we bought 100 of each from another supplier. Regards Rascalvan ( TIM) Tim@bedfordrascal.com01249 721350 www.bedfordrascal.com

Hello Mike, Replace all five core plugs while you are at it unless when tapped they sound really solid.

AAAh now this is quality information cos mine gathers the mayo, so tell me can the core plugs be fitted with head in place, cos if it can then thats a big prob solved here and I can gain trust in the old girly, Ill have a read in the Haynes bible also to see if it can be done.

They can though I have never done it. The camshaft etc. has to be removed to get to them with all the complications that brings. Easier just to take the head off. Alloy condensates so there is always some creaminess inside the rocker cover if the van is not used all the time.

Thats an interesting thing about condensing due to alloy etc, the only thing that is a wonderment is that Im not loosing water and I would of thought that I would on turn off and back pressure etc,
Anyhow Dell boy may need the front flexi hoses off you , do you have a back flexi hose as well and can I save a bit on postage if they all come together
