Hi, The engine in my Rascal has just died.  Its only just been through its MOT and a service last week and has quite a few new parts.  Everything is good except the radiator and actual engine.  So, I'm selling it.

Will consider any offers.  its in Brighton, and you will have to collect.

Well I know nothing about engines, but they mechanic I use is phoning around tomorrow to look for a new engine and radiator, but I think its gonna cost more than the van is worth.  I just spent the best part of £400 on the service and MOT.

If you can get it to me in Dartford I can fit a good used engine for £600.00 plus the cost of a new or good secondhand radiator.

Hi Dellboy, i don't know how you do it, you are the man when it comes to good value repairs.
Do you want any old blocks for spares before I scrap them?
I have approx 8 plus another few still in vans.
Loads of pistons and other bits.
Regards Tim.
PS Keep up the good work.

Hello Tim,
I am alright for blocks as I generally exchange. If you have any good camshafts I would be interested.
Thanks,
Derek.

Derek, I'll keep that in mind.  I think I've had a change of heart.  It will be a lot cheaper to fix it than buy and insure a new van.  I spoke to the mechanic today and he is going to let me know how much he can do it for.  I'm assuming you mean Dartford in Kent yes?

If I wasn't so far away I'd have it!
But don't sell it - fix it. Get Dell to do his magic! It'll still be chaeaper than a new van. And even better.....you'll still have a Rascal!!!

Unfortunately most of our vans are at the stage where most garages won't touch them. Pretty much any repair if taken to a garage is an 'uneconomic repair' due to labour costs.

Mine snapped a rear spring this morning - if I took it to a garage they'd just laugh and advise me to scrap it.
Instead I dragged our scrapper out of the hedge with a Land Rover. Removed a spring, burnt the old bush out, ordered a new bush for a tenner.....as soon as it arrives with luck I'll be back on the road by the weekend!!

Thats what I call motoring!!!

Thanks for all the advice guys!  This is such a great forum!  I've decided against selling it.  I was being a bit of a drama queen I think!
