Hi,
Sons van just failed MOT on headlights, apparently they are corroded and therefore showing more dim than they should. We can't see any corrosion just a teeny bit of plastic (no longer than 2.5 cms long and around 5 mm wide) has dropped inside the headlight.

The guy at the MOT said change the bulbs, will that make enough of a difference? My son changed the headlight bulbs around 6 months ago, will they have dimmed in that time? We think that he tested the headlights without the engine running because then they are dim, but as soon as you switch the engine on they look fine.

Any thoughts on this would be really helpful please.

Also he needs an anti roll bar bolt and bushings if anyone has that for sale Smiley

Cheers Alison.

the lights..on mine on the first mot i had were going to be a fail due to being dim...but they were just out of alighnment ..someone had wound them right down and with just a screwdriver i wound them up while they were pointing in the mot mans machine...they were fine after that ....maybe yours are the same..

i eventually changed the bulbs anyway for some ice blue things...which are much brighter...

Thanks for all your helpful replies, much appreciated. That has made life simpler.

I thought I would get email notification if someone replied so was disappointed to see no emails, so though I would come here and check only to find lots of answers, cheers!

Pretty pleased that it only failed on those two things, now to sort out the intermittent starting (or not starting) problem.....

Just went to buy those headlights 400200056240 but they do not have a side light bulb in them and my sons do. If you have a link to the ones I might need would be great but will start having a look now.

Thanks again Smiley

Duncan bought these lights and fitted extra led side lights, but he realised he didn't need to as the side light work from the main light bulb so there is no need for an extra side light bulb.  I'm sure he will give comment on this.

That's true, the headlights on my Bambi come on dim like side lights when you select the side light setting and ignition is ON. you can check this after dark, just put side lights on then switch ignition on to see if it gets a little brighter.

You still need to add parking lights to be legal, my bambi has parking bulbs in the headlights, where my van has seperate lights, these work with the ignition off, i have seen vans with the parking lights as part of the front indicator assembly.

Blimey! That doesn't really mean anything to me at all! If you were talking computers or sewing machines I would understand Smiley

So, not really sure what to do next, I am going to order the bolt thingy's from Suzuki in the morning but afraid I haven't got any further with the headlights.

Sorry to be a dimwit but not my area of knowledge Smiley

Thanks for all your replies, I really appreciate it.

In Milton Keynes. This probably wouldn't be too much trouble if we were not trying to do it on a shoestring! Smiley
