Radiator Flush
«

Hi there, Just recently bought an '88 rascal van and am going to be driving it from Swansea up to Shetland.
The radiator's kinda manky and I was wondering if someone could run me through flushing the radiator?
Where the drain is and whether to use flush or water from a hose.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I find it best to take the radiator out altogether and run the hose into it from the filler cap, drain plug and hose connectors. You need a good water pressure though.
The amount of gunk that came out of one of my vans when we changed the engine and took the rad out as well was unbelievable.
I would say a new radiator would be a good purchase though. I'll certainly be putting one in my Bambi before our trip over to Scotland in July.

Yeah, looks like I'll probably be investing in a new radiator especially if I'm gonna be doing this journey again eventually.. Thanks

I'd be wary of using a branded rad flush on a vehicle this age. If the rad is badly coated up - the rad flush will remove it but if its very thick it can just fall to the bottom and block the channels up making it worse than before. Happened to me with an old Land Rover rad once.
Flush it with a hose!
But you say its 'kinda mankey' - if you mean that the veins are starting to break off , then its finished I'm afraid.
