My fuel gauge in the pick up had been playing up over the last week. I've always filled the tank to the brim, but last time, it took a good few miles until the gauge started to move. i decided to refill when the  gauge got to 1/3 (but after 170 miles) and it turned out that i had less than 3 litres left in the tank... scary stuff.

So guys and gals, any ideas where to start looking for the problem? are there any checks to start with? i had a quick look at the terminals on the tank and it look alright (it was getting dark at the time though, but all the wires where there)

Cheers in advance

Complete the circuit at the tank end by bypassing the sender unit & see what the guage does. If it goes up to full you will know the sender unit is faulty & your troubles have really begun.
