Just a tip just because your engine is smokey might no be rings or stem seals just cured mine.the breather pipe from rocker cover to manifold has a valve at the manifold i took mine off and it was full of crap a 5 min job.if it rattles when you take it of its working

We had some discussion a few weeks ago about cleaning out the breather pipes & the P.C.V. [positive crankcase ventilation] valve with Van & someone else to reduce/ stop smoking.
 Van went for open breathers in the end.

i put in a seperate air filter about 2 years ago,did not relise that there was a valve until sat,saved myself alot of money for an engine rebuild well happy with that

Im going to check mine now, I did a strip down and repuild of the engine, at a cost of about 60 quid, still a little smokey on start up. If its the breather valve then how can I live with myself.

Remember, if the P.C.V. valve is getting blocked with carbon,oil & sludge it is symptomatic of the engine  probably not being in the best of health & is letting excessive oil by, causing the valve to block.
If you replace rings & seals, AND clean the valve, smoking will cease.

Open setup has worked a treat, no smoke since (touch wood)

Plus makes it easier to eventually fit an open after market air filter if that is of interest
