Insurance prices are a joke.

« on: March 06, 2011, 12:25:12 AM »

Hi all,

I have been looking at getting a van for the past few months but I have unfortunately changed my mind  Sad

I have had an offer from my dad to pay my insurance.. and he wont pay for van insurance (tight arse) and at the same time I have to drive from Portsmouth to Bristol on a regular basis..

So... I have to get a car, but if you guys don't mind I am going to stay on here and make plans to get a rascarry in the future Smiley

And even though I don't own a rascal I would like to come along to a few meets in the near future as i still love them Smiley

Cheers everyone

George.

Your Dad is paying for your insurance, I would have thought that a 'thank you' is the order of the day rather than calling your dad names  Shocked

Hi,

I hear what you say and do understand your situation.  Why not go for something you won't like, at least for a while, whilst you build up your driving time and experience from an insurance point of view and then as soon as you find an insurance company that will cover you without wanting both arms and legs then go for what you wanted in the first place.   I do know that asking someone your age to wait a while is almost the same as asking you to wait forever but I can't think of any other way that's legal.

I could well be wrong but I think the Polo is a German shoebox and the Rascal started life as a Suzuki and is as Japanese as they come, all Luton did was change the badges to bedford and I won't tell you what the owners of real Bedfords say about the Rascal.  My everyday car is a Suzi Wagon R and never a bit of trouble so far  Smiley    Somehow I wish I hadn't said that, I'm a believer in providence and not tempting it.

And the five passengers each claiming 5 million in damages.

How to reduce your insurance costs (legally)

To answer an earlier point a Rascal is or was an old insurance group 3, I think it is a six or seven on the new scale. But plug your details into a comparison website.

http://www.carpages.co.uk/car-insurance-groups/
lists new cars by their new insurance categories.

Good luck with the hunt

You could buy a Classic car pre 1972 & get free road tax & possibly cheaper insurance. I would suggest a Morris Minor 1000. There are plenty of good ones out there for about £1,500.00 & no shortage of spares & they are dead simple to work on & very cheap to repair if required.
