TRAILER CONVERSION

HI,
Has anyone here ever covered a rascal into a trailer, IE by chopping the front off and adding a tow bar? I have a nearly dead Rascal but love it too much to dump it.

No Rascal should be dumped. They are all salvagable. Lots have been converted into box trailers but it is a waste of a vehicle.

having seen what you have done to some i agree with you del except how much do you spend on the body i gather its about £1000,where do you draw the limit ?.i can only say its not an investment its for the love of the van

Bear in mind that although technically not illegal to build a home made trailer it may as well be.
All trailers must now bear a plate showing manufacturers name, year of manufacture and gross weight. I believe that only VOSA can verify the gross weight so I have no idea how you go about that.
I know there are plenty home made trailers about but if they were built before whatever the cut off date was they are ok - ones made today have to comply.
General consensus on Land Rover forums is that its now easier & cheaper to buy a trailer or get one made by a trailer manufacturer than to make your own and get it to comply with regs. (Or to use a caravan chassis that still has its data plate)
In accidents involving trailers trailer data plates are always checked - if you dont comply then your insurance will be void
